The Tavern Jazz Band opened another season at The Williams Inn on Wednesday night, May 18.
They didn’t come or go quietly into the night. Summoned by Manager Greta Kipp, Bob Kingsbury’s group assembled from all compass points. Along with Kingsbury on clarinet, we heard John Halsey at the piano, Barbara Dreiwitz on tuba, husband Dick Dreiwitz on trombone, John Blackmer on banjo, and “Mo” Rancourt with cornet and vocals. Great evening of jazz included the Tavern debut of Mo and the Band with Louis Armstrong’s “Hello Dolly”. But, for some of us, the song that best captured the happy spirit of the occasion was their rendition of Fats Waller’s 1935 hit, “Lulu’s Back in Town”.
Great news for jazzophiles is that the Band will be back at the Inn for three more summer dates: June 29, August 17 and September 21. Opening is @ 7pm, but the Tavern Room serving and pouring begins @ 5pm. Reservations strongly recommended.
